Monterosso Day 12

We got in on the train and walked to the Hotel Punta Mesco in Monterosso. Jody had then planned a group dinner for everyone so we all walked together to that. It was fun except for the food, since the Cinque Terre is obviously on the ocean, it’s main food is seafood, which is not really something for my family (my mom was braver) so the three of us chose the chicken instead (it was a set menu since it was a large group). I learned my lesson and next time I will be braver. We turned in early since I wanted to hike so much the next day.

Manarola

Then we started off on what we thought was the hike to Vernazza (spoiler alert: it was not). We walked up and up and it was kinda pretty, but at a certain point we were just dripping in sweat in a forest on a mountain. We finally realized our mistake and that we had to just go back down, there was nothing we could do. It was a totally bummer, but after we had delicious focaccia sandwiches, which helped.

Monterosso Day 13

We decided to skip Riomaggiore and just visit the middle three cities. We first went to the train station and picked up our trek passes (well worth the money) and hopped on the train to Manarola. We walked around the city and took a hike up through the cliff gardens and found some lovely views. Then back on the train to Corniglia (the hike was closed). More gelato.

Dinner was… good for me! I don’t eat seafood or veal, so I had spaghetti! Unfortunately the rest of the family didn't really know what to order and did not really enjoy their food. The restaurant had a wonderful, lively setting however, which made it a lovely evening anyway. Then we had to wait another thirty minutes for the next train (but if you get the trekking pass, it comes with a WiFi code for the stations!)

Then my mom and brother went back to the beach, but I really wanted to do more hikes! Luckily my kind dad said he would do one with me, so we split up. My dad and I started off on the correct trail. It was a pretty decent path. Nice views, not too sunny, not too steep, long but not ridiculous. I was glad we did it. We got to Vernazza and made reservations for dinner and then grabbed the train back to Monterosso.
